Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, and, of course, delicious food! But did you know that Thanksgiving is also the peak day for home cooking fires? Keep your holiday safe and joyful by following these cooking safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA):
🔥 Stay in the kitchen while cooking. Whether you’re frying, grilling, or broiling, never leave the stove unattended.
🔥 Keep flammable items away from heat. Towels, potholders, and food packaging can easily catch fire.
🔥 Set a timer. Avoid distractions and remember to check on what’s cooking, especially if using the oven.
🔥 Keep kids and pets away from hot surfaces. Create a “kid-free zone” of at least three feet around the stove.
🔥 Be cautious with deep fryers. Use them outdoors, on a flat surface, and far from walls or flammable materials.
