After Market Lithium-Ion Batteries Found in a Garage Fire Saturday Night

Madison County, IN – Saturday night, East Madison Fire Territory firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire on Vasbinder Dr in Chesterfield, IN. The 911 call stated that there was a fire in the garage and lots of smoke. The occupants of the home, who were inside the house at the time of the fire, were able to escape the home. Fire crews arrived on the scene and found a fire in the garage with heavy smoke coming from the residence. Crews quickly made an attack on the fire and were able to contain the fire to the garage with some extension to the east wall of the home. The entire house suffered heavy smoke and water damage. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Sadly, the family dog, cat, and mice did not survive the fire.

The investigation revealed in the garage, several aftermarket lithium-ion batteries being charged in the area of the fire origin that could not be ruled out as the ignition source. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
