Dive Team / Water Operations

Welcome to the EMFT Water Rescue Team! We are a highly skilled team dedicated to ensuring public safety in water-related emergencies. Our personnel undergo extensive training in various disciplines such as Public Safety Diving, Swiftwater Rescue, Ice Surface Rescue, and Boat Operations.

EMFT is one of three water rescue teams in Madison County. Our team works closely with other water rescue teams in the country from the Anderson Fire Department, South Madison Fire Territory, and Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The EMFT team is available 24/7 with both on-duty and on-call personnel. Our team members are trained to the technician level in their respective fields, equipped with the knowledge and expertise to handle a wide range of water rescue operations.

Our equipment loadout is designed to support our operations effectively. It includes water rescue suits, a rope cache for specialized rescue techniques, a 16′ boat, scuba diving packs, and other specialized equipment tailored to our unique challenges.

EMFT SCBA Dive Team

Being a member of the EMFT Water Rescue Team is physically demanding, requiring exceptional watermanship skills. Our team members must pass a rigorous swim test, demonstrate proficiency in scuba diving skills, and undergo regular medical screenings to maintain their active status. We prioritize the safety and well-being of our team members to ensure they are prepared for any situation.

To stay at the forefront of water rescue techniques and enhance our capabilities, all EMFT Water Rescue Team members participate in monthly training sessions. These sessions involve structured skills training and scenario-based incident response exercises, allowing our team to maintain their skills and readiness.

It is important to note that our divers often operate in completely zero visibility conditions, and the water temperatures are typically very cold throughout the year. Therefore, we utilize specialized equipment to protect against hypothermia and exposure to waterborne bacteria, ensuring the safety of both our team members and the individuals we rescue.

At the EMFT Water Rescue Team, we are committed to serving our community and ensuring the safety of those in water-related emergencies. If you require our assistance or have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
