The East Madison Fire Territory (EMFT) Public Affairs & Outreach Division (PAO) is dedicated to building a safer, stronger, and more informed community.
Our team of trained professionals specializes in public information, fire prevention, first aid, and community education—because we believe that most emergencies can be prevented through proactive outreach and engagement.
The PAO team is available seven days a week to provide educational programs and training for schools, businesses, civic organizations, churches, and community groups of all sizes.

The Community Outreach Section builds strong relationships between our fire department and the residents we serve.
We focus on education, engagement, and prevention, helping families and organizations understand how to stay safe before, during, and after an emergency.
Our outreach programs include:
- Organizing community events, neighborhood meetings, and fire prevention programs
- Coordinating smoke detector installations and safety visits
- Leading fire drills for schools, preschools, and local businesses
- Offering station tours for families and youth groups
- Developing plans for a future Citizens Fire Academy
🚨 Community Risk Reduction (CRR)
Community Risk Reduction (CRR) is the foundation of our prevention mission.
This proactive approach identifies and prioritizes local hazards, then implements targeted strategies to reduce the likelihood and impact of emergencies.
Our Key CRR Initiatives Include:
- 🔥 Fire Prevention & Public Education: Hosting community events, school visits, and safety programs that teach families about escape planning and prevention.
- 🚨 Smoke Alarm & Home Safety Programs: Providing smoke detector installations and home safety checks to ensure every household has early warning in case of fire.
- ⚡ Lithium-Ion Battery Safety & Electrical Fire Awareness: Educating residents about rechargeable battery hazards to prevent overheating or fires.
- 🏠 Community Connect: Encouraging residents to share vital household information with first responders through our secure Community Connect platform, helping us respond more effectively during emergencies.
- 💧 Community Partnerships: Working with schools, local businesses, and civic groups to promote a culture of preparedness and safety.

❤️ Life Safety Education
The Life Safety Section provides vital training to help residents prepare for emergencies and respond with confidence.
Programs include:
- Youth Firesetter Intervention Program
- Infant and Child Car Seat Safety Checks
- CPR & AED Certification Courses
- Stop the Bleed and First Aid Training
- Other community-based life safety education programs
If your organization, school, or group would like to host a class or request a presentation, our team will tailor the training to your audience.
📢 Public Affairs & Media Relations
The Public Affairs Section manages all official communication and community messaging for the East Madison Fire Territory.
Our Public Information Officers (PIOs) ensure accurate, timely, and transparent information is shared with both the media and the public.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating with local media organizations
- Drafting and distributing press releases and official briefings
- Providing on-scene media coordination during incidents
- Managing EMFT’s official social media accounts
- Maintaining and updating the eastmadisonfire.com website for community outreach and emergency communication
