Home Destroyed in Afternoon Structure Fire

At 3:18 PM on 4/25/2024, the East Madison Fire Territory was dispatched to a house fire on 4th Street, east of Rangeline Road. The first crew on scene found heavy fire and smoke conditions. Crews fought the fire, which spread quickly through the entire home. One resident was home, at the time of the fire, and was able to safely evacuate the home with the family dog after a neighbor alerted him to the fire. Sadly, a family cat did not survive the intense fire and smoke conditions. One East Madison Fire Territory firefighter, sustained burn injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The firefighter is expected to be released from the hospital later tonight. Crews were on-scene for over 3 hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
