Firefighters Rescue Elderly Occupant from House Fire

Chesterfield, IN – November 11, 2024 – At approximately 10:29 PM on Sunday, November 10, 2024, Madison County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a fire near the intersection of Avalon Lane and Idlewood Drive in Chesterfield. Fire crews from the East Madison Fire Territory arrived within 3 minutes to find smoke coming from the roofline at 23 Avalon Lane. Firefighters entered the home to find thick smoke throughout the residence and located an elderly occupant semi-conscious in the back of the residence. Firefighters successfully rescued the individual outside to awaiting EMS personnel. Paramedics transported the male to an Anderson hospital in serious condition.

The fire, which was contained to the kitchen area, was quickly extinguished by fire crews. The residence sustained smoke damage throughout and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Automatic aid assistance was provided by Salem Township – Daleville Fire Department. Units from Anderson, Yorktown, and Adams Township were dispatched for assistance but disregarded before arriving.

Firefighters remind residents to ensure their smoke alarms are in place and functional throughout and home are equipped with fire extinguishers.
